Margaret Hennessey, a mathematics teacher at the Durham School of the Arts, was selected as one of 10 North Carolina public school teachers to receive a Borchardt Award. The award provides funding for participation in a professional development program entitled India: A Study in Contrasts. Organized by the University of North Carolina’s Center for International Understanding, the program allowed participants to explore the historical, political, and socio-cultural dimensions of technological innovation during a 14-day study trip which took place in India in July 2013. In addition to visiting schools, non-profit organizations, businesses, and cultural and historic sites, participants explored global challenges with implications for both India and North Carolina. Hennessey is a 2011 KSTF Teaching Fellow.
