2009 PHYSICAL SCIENCE

NOAH EGGE
Hometown: Alexandria, Virginia
Field: Earth Science
Teacher preparation program:
University of Virginia
Anticipated date of graduation: May 2010

Being exposed to the great outdoors on family trips and as a Boy Scout helped Noah Egge develop a deep love and appreciation for nature and the environment. His passion for working with children ultimately led to his decision to pursue a career as an educator.

While attending the University of Virginia, Noah realized how much he wanted to teach. After graduation he took on a one-year teaching position at an agricultural school in Greece. He returned to Virginia to pursue his master’s degree and after worked toward a doctoral degree in environmental sciences before spending a second full year working in Thessaloniki. The time away gave him an opportunity for reflection, and he realized that even in his doctoral program, what he enjoyed most was teaching labs and relating with students.

Noah, a University of Virginia graduate with a degree in environmental sciences, is a member of the Pi Epsilon National Environmental Sciences Honor Society. He has raised money for breast cancer research and donated hair to Locks for Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss. He continues to be involved with the Boy Scouts as an adult leader.

I want to expose students to the beauty and wonder that lie within the natural world and share the knowledge I have accumulated throughout my academic pursuit and life experiences.
