I knew in my first year as a high school science teacher that this was definitely the job for me. I love it!
Dana Pickering Senior Fellow
Senior Fellow Meade County High School Brandenburg, Kentucky
Dana Pickering is teaching science at her own alma mater, Meade County High School. Growing up in Brandenburg, Kentucky, Dana was active in softball, cheerleading, dance, and student government, before finding her love for science. “When I was a sophomore I signed up to take chemistry. I took three semesters of chemistry because I enjoyed it so much.”
Dana attended Bellarmine University for her bachelor’s degree in chemistry, at first with the goal of continuing on to medical school. “During my sophomore year of college, I realized that medical school was not for me and I was meant all along to be a teacher.” She tutored at college and became a teaching assistant for the freshman chemistry class. “Those were both wonderful experiences.”
After attending the University of Louisville for graduate school, Dana completed her master’s degree and received her teaching certificate. Dana is married to her high school sweetheart and loves reading and spending time with her large family.
