As a teacher, I like the challenge of getting students to think mathematically and preparing them to approach and solve difficult problems.
Sujata Ganpule Senior Fellow
Senior Fellow Friends School of Baltimore Baltimore, Maryland
Sujata Ganpule grew up in Northern California and, as a child, struggled with math. With the support and encouragement of her parents, Sujata began to improve and, by eighth grade, mathematics was one of her favorite subjects. Originally a computer science major at Cornell University, Sujata soon decided to switch to math.
While at Cornell, Sujata was a member of the Cornell Bhangra Team (an Indian folk dance from Punjab) where she participated in cultural shows and traveled to competitions in cities like Ann Arbor, Boston and Toronto. As a senior, she joined the undergraduate teaching program, and spent time tutoring and working at Ithaca High School. She enjoyed the experience and decided to pursue teaching as a career. Sujata earned an MA in education and her teaching credential from the University of California, Berkeley.
Sujata taught for four years with Envision Schools, a charter management group whose mission is to bring high quality college preparatory education to communities with the greatest need. After a year at the College Preparatory School in Oakland, Sujata moved to Baltimore and is currently teaching at the Friends School of Baltimore.
