Dr. Jeanne Vissa works with the 2005 and 2007 KSTF Mathematics Fellows.  Jeanne received a BA in English from Hunter College, an MST in mathematics from Fordham University, and an EdD from Teachers College, Columbia University in curriculum and teaching-mathematics education.

From 1974-1999, Jeanne was part of White Plains Public Schools, where she served as a teacher, mathematics coach, K-12 mathematics coordinator, and principal of Church Street School.  Her work as a coach was featured three times in the NCTM publications.  During Jeanne’s career as a principal, her school was twice a state-nominated finalist in the national Schools of Excellence competition. Jeanne was also a fellow of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Association. 

In 1999, Jeanne joined the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, where she continues to be an adjunct. One of her particular interests has been to support teachers and administrators in seeing how lesson study impacts the learning of challenging concepts. In addition to being faculty in mathematics education, Jeanne was the director of the Penn Partnership Schools and has worked with Philadelphia mathematics teachers through several Penn-affiliated institutes. She has presented at NCTM, AERA and NSDC on issues related to both teacher and administrator preparation. Before joining KSTF, Jeanne was a new teacher advisor to Math for America.
