Erin K. Rizor supports KSTF’s research and evaluation activities that are generated through the Teaching Fellowship Program. Erin brings extensive experience with both quantitative and qualitative methods and analysis to KSTF. As a graduate student, she designed and implemented research projects that relied on qualitative methods such as participant observation, interviews, focus groups and life stories. Erin managed large data sets and conducted research on teacher and student perceptions of curriculum and implementation for the NSF-funded Science in the City project. As a long-term instructor of research methodology, Erin has helped facilitate students’ learning of an overview of research, the ethics of research and the completion of small research projects.

Erin received a BA in sociology and religious studies from Maryland’s Hood College. She earned an MA in social & public policy and conflict resolution from Duquesne University, and an MA in sociology from Temple University. Erin has served as an instructor at Temple University, Rowan University, Camden County College and Community College of Allegheny County. Her research work includes investigating firefighter injuries and contributing behaviors; and evaluating attitudes on breast screening practices among African-American women.

Erin is a member of the American Sociological Association (Methodology) and the American Educational Research Association. She has presented at the annual meetings of the International Society for Exploring Teaching and Learning (ISETL), the Eastern Sociological Society and the American Sociological Association.
