Paul Kuerbis joined the KSTF Board of Trustees in May 2008, having previously served as a member of KSTF's Science Advisory Committee.  Dr. Kuerbis is Professor and Chair of Education at Colorado College in Colorado Springs and the Director of the college's Crown Faculty Center for faculty development and the Colket Student Learning Center.

Dr. Kuerbis' career has been devoted to science education and the professional development of science teachers.   He has taught science at the middle, high school and community college levels, as well as at Colorado College where he has been since 1973.  He founded and directed the Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Science program that leads to Colorado licensure; the Master of Arts in Teaching Integrated Natural Sciences program for K-12 teachers; and the Whiz Bang Science summer program for children.  

Dr. Kuerbis is the recipient of two Eisenhower grants and several grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF) totaling over $10 million.  From 2000 to 2008, he was Co-Principal Investigator of NSF's $6.3 million STEP-uP (Science Teacher Enhancement Unifying the Pikes Peak region) grant that impacted over 2700 teachers in five school districts.  He is currently the Director of the Colorado Math Science Partnership grant for middle school science, STEP3:  Science Teacher Educational Partnership for Pikes Peak.

Past president of the Association for the Education of Teachers in Science (ASTE), Dr. Kuerbis has served on the Governor's Board of Directors for the Colorado Statewide Systemic Initiative in Science from 1994 to 1999, and as director of curriculum and instruction for the National Center for Improving Science Education in Washington D.C. from 1988 to 1992.

Dr. Kuerbis served on the editorial board of the Journal of Science Teacher Education for three years, and has contributed to numerous publications by the National Research Council (NRC).  He has authored or co-authored a number of professional articles including, Teacher Preparation in light of Standards-based Reform.

Dr. Kuerbis received his B.S. in Biology from St. Mary's College and his Master's in Zoology from the University of California, Los Angeles.  He received his Ph.D. in Science Education from the University of California, Berkeley in 1976.
