Teaching Fellows' Meetings

2008 Mathematics Cohort Fellows' Meetings

October 17-18, 2008

The 2008 Mathematics cohort met in San Francisco, CA for their first fall cohort meeting.  The 2008 cohorts (mathematics, biology, and physical science) are focusing on a common theme of “rate of change” as the introduction to the process of lesson study.  Throughout this fellowship year, the fellows in all cohorts are working within this content area to explore their own content knowledge and consider how that knowledge is used in teaching.

The fall meeting specifically focused on looking at curricula and standards with respect to rates of change. Fellows also participated a workshop on The Geometer’s Sketchpad led by Andre Marti from Key Curriculum Press .  The workshop served as a way for fellows to engage with the mathematical tasks the centered around rate of change as well as an introduction to Geometer’s Sketchpad. The fellows spent Saturday afternoon focusing on their reflective portfolios, specifically identifying a goal and articulating the rationale for working toward the goal throughout the year.
