Jennifer grew up in Weirton, West Virginia. She received her EdD in mathematics education from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006. Her research interests include the instructional practices of beginning teachers and how the contexts in which the teachers work influence those practices.
After graduating with a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Bethany College, Jen moved to Maryland where she taught 6th grade mathematics for four years. Jen earned her MEd in mathematics education at the University of Pittsburgh in 2000. During her graduate work for both her master's and doctorate, Jen enjoyed being a teaching fellow. Her primary responsibilities included teaching a variety of content and methods focused courses for both elementary and secondary pre-service teachers as well as supervising pre-service teachers in their field placements. In addition, under the direction of Margaret (Peg) Smith, Jen was a member of an NSF-funded project team, Enhancing Secondary Mathematics Teacher Preparation, which created and implemented a series of professional development workshops for pre-service teachers and their mentors. She also was a member of the design team for Institute for Learning's Math Team. During the year that she worked on the team, the focus was to provide Los Angeles Unified School District with research and practice-based professional development in mathematics by way of modified lesson study.
Jen is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, American Educational Research Association, National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics, and the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators. As the program officer in mathematics at KSTF, she is part of the team that is responsible for guiding the KSTF fellows in becoming professional high school mathematics teachers. She is primarily responsible for the 2006 Cohort of Mathematics Teaching Fellows. She can be reached at jmossgrove@kstf.org.
